home What can you do if you are worried you may be a victim of street crime?· Trust your instincts and feelings, if you are feeling uncomfortable then try to get to a place you feel safe.
· Try to keep valuables out of sight. This means try not to walk along the street using your phone.
· Keep all your valuables in different places i.e. keys in your jacket pocket, money in your jeans and phone in your bag.
· If anyone tries to steal anything from you it is safest to give it up rather than fight for it.
· You can mark your personal belongs such as your bike, minidisk player and phone with a UV pen. The pens go on invisible but show up under a UV light. You can get them from the local crime prevention centre in the Southside shopping centre in Wandsworth, from your local police station or from the Victim Support office in Clapham Junction. You need to put your house name or number and your postcode and this can be tracked back to you if it gets stolen.
· You can find out your IMEI number for your mobile by dialling *#06#. Write your IEMI number down and if your phone gets stolen you can call your service provider who can isolate your mobile and make sure nobody can make calls from it.
· If you are walking about on your own you will feel safer and be safer if you P.L.A.N. before you walk anywhere. · Prepare· Look confident· Avoid risks· Never take safety for granted. |
