3rd Party Reporting

It has been recognised by the Police that there are still barriers that deter people from reporting crime. Third party reporting is a service provided by Victim Support Wandsworth whereby victims of Hate Crimes can report any incident at our office and depending on what input from the police you would like the following can happen.

1. Details of the incident only

This option would mean that you do not have to give your personal details e.g. name or address. The incident will not be investigated. It is valuable information in order to record statistics and prevent other incidents.

2. Reporting the Crime– not investigated

Some people who have experienced a hate crime want the Police to be notified but at the time are unsure whether or not they want to precede and have the crime investigated. In these cases the details of the crime and the victims details can be recorded without further action. This is also useful if there is another incident as the Police have some knowledge already.

3. Reporting the Crime – investigated

This option is open to those who would like to report a Hate Crime but for whatever reason prefer to report the crime through Victim Support Wandsworth rather than directly to the Police. The information will be passed to the Community Safety unit (a division of the Police who specifically deal with Hate Crime) and they will contact the victim to take a statement and investigate the crime.

Victim Support Wandsworth is available to discuss the options with you and to support you in whichever decision you take.

YOU DO NOT NEED TO REPORT A CRIME TO USE OUR SERVICE.
