Violence

Violence can include verbal abuse, threats and even physical assault.  It can take place in the home, on the street, when you’re at work, or with friends.

Everyone has the right to live without fear.

When your safety is shattered by violence, you may have feelings that are as difficult to cope with, as any physical injuries sustained.  People who have been threatened or attacked often say they feel upset, afraid and mistrustful of other people.  You might feel angry that it happened to you, or lose confidence or feel guilty and depressed.

What we can do:

·         Offer emotional support/someone to talk to in confidence

·         Liaise with the Police and other agencies i.e. housing

·         Help with CICA forms and appeals

·         Give you information about other agencies (i.e. self-defence classes)

As with any crime, there are a number of factors that may influence recovery.  These may include

·         What support is available to the victim from friends and family?

·         Was the perpetrator arrested?

·         Does the victim have to attend court to give evidence?

·         Were the Police (and any other agencies) helpful?
